Right Here, Right Now

Sune's doesn't carry every item you might desire.

We can't compete with the big-box stores.

We're not trying to.

But. We're here. Now.

We make your life easier with a selection of basic items.

Plus fun extras to explore that you don't know you need.

Our wonderful Sune's team members will happily answer all your questions & provide excellent small-town Island service.

Through the Years

We're a multi-generational, family-owned & operated grocery store & drygoods market

 that opened in 1935.

Begun by Hanna & Karl Heinonen,

Finnish immigrants, the one-room store was inherited by their only daughter, Hilka, born on Drummond Island, & her husband, Sune Bucht,
a Swedish immigrant.

Sune & Hilka continued to expand the store while adding 8 other businesses to keep up with changing needs.

The next phase added Bucht children: Ann, Carl, Ruth, & Sune Edward. Each worked in many capacities to move the businesses forward.

Times change.

Gradually each of the entities was peeled off until the two original stores remained.

Carl's daughter, Kelly Bucht Melvin, & husband, Dale Melvin are the 4th generation to contribute their skills. The 5th generation, Kelly & Dale's son, Zach, is stepping up to carry on Sune's mission to serve Drummond Island

with life's necessities.
